DALLAS: Bishop says no more Defections in Private Memo to Clergy
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
At the request of our Bishop, I am writing to inform you that at its meeting yesterday, the Standing Committee of the Diocese passed an internal resolution stating that it would not hear any Canon 20 matters (those pertaining to a difference between a parish and Diocese) until April 2007.
This is not meant to be punitive, nor does it mean that such requests cannot be heard favorably. Rather, this resolution is intended to give time for the meaning of the Dar-es-Salaam meeting of Primates to be heard and understood.
The members of the Committee, in counsel with our Bishop, believe that this meeting will be instructional and formative, both for the Anglican Communion and the Diocese of Dallas.
We also wanted to let anyone thinking of entering this process know the minimum timeframe for their requests to come before the Standing Committee, and thus avoid any unreasonable expectations.
