The Metropolitan of the Coptic Orthodox Church flailed Anglican liberals in remarks to some 100 Global South Anglicans meeting in Cairo this week.
Speaking on behalf of his holiness Anba Tawadros II Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, Metropolitan Bishoy said that in spite of some serious disagreements related to issues like women priesthood, same sex marriage, the ordination of homosexuals, and the salvation of non-believers, the Orthodox leader encouraged Anglican conservatives "to continue to abiding to the true and genuine biblical principles."
"I would like to say that is our role to be witnesses to our Savior Jesus Christ and to be light of the world especially these days. We should adhere to the commandments of the Holy Scriptures both of the Old and New Testament, and to the holy life revealed in these commandments."
The Metropolitan said the Orthodox Church supported the stance expressed in the Declaration of the Fourth Anglican Global South to South Encounter in Singapore, April 2010, "backing you in your defense of the commandments of the Holy Scriptures."
The Pope's spokesman said he was "delighted" with the Christological Agreement signed between the Anglican Communion and the Oriental Orthodox Churches in Egypt 2014.
