The General Convention of the Episcopal Church is held every three years to debate and approve new church policy or positions and to approve a budget. The events and affiliated reunions and meeting could draw around 10,000 people to Utah. The nine-day event will be headquartered at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

TEC had appealed the ruling and the state Supreme Court agreed to consider the appeal. The Diocese's brief supports Judge Goodstein's ruling on the basis of state and federal precedent, as well as established church history.

"This is not a legitimate offer of good faith negotiation and never was intended to be," said the Rev. Canon Jim Lewis, Assistant to Bishop Mark Lawrence. "It was a spurious-offer chiefly made to disrupt submission of our brief and make them look good in the press." Lewis said. "As a matter of fact, the Presiding Bishop's chancellor is on record as saying they would never settle. In that, they have been utterly consistent up until now."

In his address, the Very Rev. Dr. Peter Moore, honorary chair of the campaign, said, "This campaign is going to extend the borders of Trinity well beyond Ambridge. Online courses, publications, videos, all kinds of media, extension campuses...this campaign is going to help Trinity grow."
