December 12 2018 By dvirtue Church of England crosses red line as it blesses "genital mutilation"

It is this granting of canonical status to the service of initiation for transgender people that has led traditionalists to claim that a "red line" has been crossed for the first time since the debates over homosexuality and transgenderism erupted in the church.

December 01 2018 By dvirtue The abuse of Sex Money and Power in the C of E. Radical Inclusion played out in Derby Cathedral

Welby is the same generation as I am, and we were both well educated. Most boys of our generation were brought up reading Orwell's Animal Farm, and Huxley's Brave New World. We knew about 'Newspeak.' We were well aware of the dangers of a culture, or a highly politicised society to use one word for public consumption that actually meant another.

November 25 2018 By dvirtue Archbishop Welby can't stand a transgender God picking preferred pronouns

Welby, who at some stage surely must have studied theology, knows the word "anthropomorphism"--attributing human characteristics to God. Seven-year-old Talitha in my Sunday School will shyly but sweetly explain to Archbishop Welby why she doesn't think God has a face, hands, feet, eyes, ears, or backside to sit on his throne, even though the Bible ascribes human body parts to God.

November 22 2018 By dvirtue 'God is not male... OR female': Archbishop of Canterbury says 'the Father' cannot be defined by human gender

Other church leaders have called for Christians to avoid labelling God as a 'he'.

Some campaigns have pointed out in the Bible there are passages where God provides solace 'as a mother comforts her child' and have begun referring to God as a 'her'.

When asked his opinion, the Archbishop told an audience at St Martin-in-theFields in Trafalgar Square that no gender word would be appropriate.

However, attendance at Christmas services in 2017 was the highest in a decade, at 2.68 million, suggesting that services are increasingly seen as an element of festivities rather than regular religious worship. The figure was a marginal increase on last year's 2.6 million.

November 08 2018 By dvirtue Oxford dons devour feminist Dean who crushed conservative Bishop

Now the long knives are out for the Very Reverend Professor Percy, who is facing claims of "conduct of an immoral, scandalous or disgraceful nature incompatible with the duties of the office or employment". A formal complaint was lodged against him after he sought a pay review for college staff under gender pay gap rules. Reports say this could have led to a pay rise of up to £10,000 for Percy as well as a salary hike for a senior female staff member.

November 06 2018 By dvirtue "Clothe yourselves with love" -- a response to the pastoral letter from the Bishops of Oxford Diocese

As a summary of the process, the Bishops mention Pilling, the Shared Conversations, the 2017 GS2055 report, the Archbishops' pastoral letter following Synod's rejection of the report, and the setting up of the Pastoral Advisory Group and the Living in Love and Faith document process. They highlight the call for "radical inclusion" and the universality of God's love.

November 04 2018 By dvirtue LGBT inclusion: What's wrong with the Oxford bishops' letter?

From a conservative-orthodox point of view it is notable that the language in the letter is almost entirely that of the LGBT side of the debate. 'Respect' appears six times, 'inclusion' four times, the phrase 'everyone has a place at the table' twice, and the pain felt by some as a result of the church's ongoing debates is acknowledged on two occasions. In full apologetic mode, the bishops state: 'As a Church we have continually failed our sisters and brothers in Christ'.

Couples where the bride and groom were born into the same sex can have church weddings as long as one has an official gender recognition certificate for their acquired gender, its leaders said.

Weddings between brides and grooms who have both changed sex can also go ahead as long as both have the legal recognition.
