But the new report, called Separating Church and State: The Case for Disestablishment, questions the institutional links between Church, Monarchy and Parliament and indicates that secularists are gearing up for a major discussion about the issue when Prince Charles accedes to the throne.

December 04 2017 By dvirtue ENGLAND: Advent-cum-Mawlid: church holds joint birthday celebration for Mohammed and Jesus

We have been here before: when Westminster Abbey hosted a service in which Mohammed was named in the succession of prophets, they effectively proclaimed to the world that Mohammed is greater than Jesus:

December 03 2017 By dvirtue ANGLICAN MISSION IN ENGLAND COMES OF AGE

What was striking was the statemanslike nature of the statement by AMIE's mission director Lee McNunn announcing the ordinations. This belied the juvenile headline by the allegedly evangelical but actually liberal-leaning website, Christian Today: 'Rival Anglican church ordains new clergy in challenge to Justin Welby' (current Archbishop of Canterbury).

November 24 2017 By dvirtue Welby gives lecture on 'Christian hope' in Moscow

When my predecessor, Archbishop Rowan Williams, and His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew laid down the mandate for the fourth round of Anglican-Orthodox Dialogue in 2007 the topics to be discussed were ethical. Yet the first report of this phase of dialogue was about theological anthropology rather than Christian ethics. Why? Because ethical issues cannot be considered in the abstract. November 23 2017 By dvirtue HOW MANY BIG BROTHERS ARE WATCHING YOU?

I was so uneasy about this that I mentioned it to my taxi driver on the way home in order to discover what he thought about these Safeguarding techniques. "Oh don't talk to me about Safeguarding. November 21 2017 By dvirtue Welby's transgender crusade will encourage bullying, not stop it

The C of E version of the story has two drunks afflicted by cognitive dissonance. Arch of Cant 'Wobbly' Welby and his Chief Education Officer Nigel Genders (believe me, that is his real name!) are frenziedly explaining how little boys can combat the classroom bully if given permission to cast off their school uniforms and parade around dressed like drag queens. Not even Homer Simpson would come up with such a barmy solution to bullying.

November 14 2017 By dvirtue Anglican bishops told to stop acting as CEOs 'chasing growth targets' and instead help depressed clergy

Martyn Percy, Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, said a target and business-like approach instilled under the current Archbishop of Canterbury, a former oil executive, was contributing to clergy stress and mental health problems.

He called for an end to 'blue-sky' thinking and warned that 'every step that the church takes down the road of managerialism and organisation is a step away from the public'.
