Less than a week after the U.S. Army disinvited evangelist Franklin Graham from the Pentagon's National Day of Prayer service, a Muslim group is trying to remove him from another National Day of Prayer event.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on the congressional sponsors of the National Day of Prayer event on Capitol Hill to also disinvite Graham from the event because of his "anti-Islam" views.

Members of Congress say that they will not rescind the invitation for the evangelist to speak. The National Day of Prayer Task Force, led by Shirley Dobson, have also stated support for Graham.

"Suggesting Mr. Graham should be removed from a National Day of Prayer event because of his religious opinions is absurd," said Dobson in a statement Tuesday. "No one understands better the need for prayer at this critical juncture in our nation's history.

"Moves to exclude any member of this great family from this prayer event represent everything that is wrong with the agenda of political correctness that is rampant in our country," Dobson said. "Our nation's founders wouldn't have tolerated it, and neither should we."

Graham is being criticized for his comments on Islam after 9/11 when he called Islam a "very evil and wicked religion." Later he elaborated on the statement, saying he wanted to "decry the evil that has been done in the name of Islam."
