STATEMENT OF THE BISHOPS OF FORWARD IN FAITH NORTH AMERICA
We, the undersigned Bishops of Forward in Faith North America, make the following statement concerning the upcoming consecration of The Rev. Dr. David Moyer as Bishop of the Armed Forces for the Anglican Church in America.
Father Moyer has been for years a leader in the struggle for the maintenance of the historic Faith and Order among Anglicans in the United States, and has served with distinction as President of FiFNA. We offer our prayers and ask God's blessing on his new ministry, wishing him and his lovely wife, Rita, the best in this important endeavor.
We also support the efforts to bring together the various elements of the Continuum, so that all orthodox Christians of the Anglican way might stand together in unity of faith and purpose. At the same time, we are primarily committed to working together within the Anglican Communion, for the strengthening of Anglican orthodoxy within the United States of America, and for the support of the Anglican Communion Network, of which we are an intergral part.
While Father Moyer's consecration may well be a way to bring the Continuum closer together, a good and laudable goal, that consecration will also be perceived by many as a stumbling block to the building up of an orthodox Anglican Province within these United States. We recognize the reality of that perception, and therefore express reservation as to the timeliness of an action which does not have any prior approval of Forward in Faith, either here or abroad.
We ask all members of Forward in Faith to work and pray for the unity of all Anglicans, for the defense of orthodoxy within the Anglican Communion, and for the support of orthodox Anglican unity in the United States of America.
