March 28 2014 By virtueonline SALVATION: FROM HERE TO ETERNITY: Titus 3:4-8

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying.” (Titus 3:4-8)

March 20 2014 By virtueonline THE GOSPEL OF SALVATION: 2 Timothy 1:9,10

The gospel is the good news of salvation, or the good news of our Savior Christ Jesus. It is about what God has done for us in Christ before the beginning of time which has now been revealed to us in the life of Christ. It is good news because God has done for us what we could not do for ourselves. This is what grace means. It is an undeserved gift. God purposed to give us this gift of salvation before we were born, before history, before time, in eternity.

March 13 2014 By virtueonline THE MEANING OF SALVATION: JESUS - Acts 16:16-34

In the case of the woman, she was a fortune teller, a psychic, who earned a great deal of money for her owners. She was an exotic figure, probably dressed in a bizarre fashion to draw attention to herself for she was possessed by the spirit of Apollo (the python), who was regarded by the pagan world as a healer and who inspired the Delphic Oracle to make predictions. She must have listened in to the meetings the apostles were having and heard them expound the way of salvation through Jesus.

March 11 2014 By virtueonline For those in grief this Lent, 2014 - Fr. Brewster Hastings

I felt out of sorts. I would put on different colored socks, roll the garbage cans to the curb on the wrong day, misplace the car keys, sometimes confuse the red and green lights of a traffic signal, be tempted to drink too much, sleep fitfully. People were patient with me. I would show up for work, do daily obligations participate in conversations as well as social engagements. Yet, frequently I looked off into space as if trying to figure out the words of a song on a radio in another room.

March 07 2014 By virtueonline A LENTEN DEVOTIONAL - Bishop John Guernsey

How early we learn to try to cover up our sin, to make excuses, to justify ourselves, to minimize what we did. In this Lenten season, we seek the Lord and invite Him to convict us of sin. In Psalm 51, David says, "I know my transgressions," "my offenses," "my wickedness," "my sin."

February 28 2014 By virtueonline THE MEANING OF SALVATION: WHOLENESS Mark 5:24-34

Jesus says to those who are forgiven, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace" (Luke 7:50) and uses the same words to the healed leper (Luke 17:19). Ultimate salvation, God's salvation which Christ came to bring, is entered by faith alone. Salvation is of the Lord, and must be accepted in simple trusting faith, if it is to be enjoyed at all.

February 20 2014 By virtueonline THE MEANING OF SALVATION: FORGIVENESS - Luke 19:1-10

All people are sinners who are lost and need to be found and find forgiveness. We see Jesus seeking and saving all kind of sinners.

There is the respectable sinner, Nicodemus, and showing him his need of a radical rebirth of the Spirit (John 3:3-5).

There is the brazen sinner, a Samaritan woman of multiple marriages and affairs, and offering her the lasting satisfaction she had sought so long but in vain (John 4).

February 14 2014 By virtueonline THE MEANING OF SALVATION: THE KINGDOM OF GOD - Mark 10:17-31

Jesus came preaching the kingdom of God. In one important passage recorded in three of the Gospels, the kingdom of God, salvation and eternal life are all equated with each other, and related to following Jesus. In fact, the word for 'life' and 'salvation' are the same in Aramaic.

In his manhood he identified with such people and was fully involved in their community, the community of ordinary folk caught up in ordinary life. He mingled among them as a skilled and respected carpenter - no pretensions.
