Makalani said the two were allegedly spotted as leaders of a group that shouted insults at Mwenda, calling him "a foreigner" and threw stones as the officiating clergy entered the church for the ceremony which coincided with Palm Sunday.

"Those people who were against the ordination of Mwenda started throwing stones while the ceremony was in process and when we were alerted we rushed to the scene where we arrested the two," said Makalani.

On this Shrove Tuesday, crowds began gathering at daybreak in anticipation of the arrival of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, and the Archbishop of Sudan, Dr. Joseph Marona. Second, the report is intended as the beginning point for a conversation that will take place in Columbus under the aegis of the Holy Spirit. The Anglican Alliance of North Florida is saddened by Bishop Howard's action and by the confusion and anguish it will inevitably cause. Each of the 16 churches in the Anglican Alliance of North Florida has prayerfully followed the course that seemed right for them in their dealings with the diocese, and some have chosen to walk away from their properties rather than fight for them.

In his address, Bishop Langrish stated clearly that should the General Convention either give its consent to the consecration of another bishop in a same sex relationship or approve the blessing of such unions, the Anglican Communion will break apart, the dialogue with Rome will come to a halt, and the inter-faith dialogue with Muslims will end.

April 04 2006 By virtueonline OTTAWA: Diocesan debate about lesbian priest escalates

In an open letter posted on its Web site and on Ottawa's diocesan e-mail discussion list, the group added: "Priests are supposed to be held to a high moral standard. That standard has always been faithfulness in marriage between a man and a woman or abstinence. If a bishop sanctions same-sex 'marriage' in the priesthood, surely there can be no basis for refusing to marry any same-sex couple."

The letter was signed by seven priests.
