"I believe", she says, leaning forward out of the plush sofa as if to underline her own words, "that God is not against women. It seems so extraordinarily insulting to Him to claim anything like that. So what do we say about God? How does that rhyme with the image of the all-embracing, loving and inclusive god? (sic) "Forward in Faith instead describes these ordained women, these holy women, by grossly abusive invective, as though they were cheap whores.

"As it happens I have spent this morning with Muslim colleagues and friends in West Yorkshire; and we were all as one in our condemnation of this evil and in our shared sense of care and compassion for those affected in whatever way.

"Such solidarity and common purpose is vital for us all at this time of pain and sorrow and anger.

The Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia is responsible for chairing the General Synod of the Church, as well as representing the denomination internationally in the Anglican Communion.

In the past the Primate has also occupied a significant media platform, speaking on behalf of the national church on a wide range of issues.
