By the third round of voting, the Archbishop of Adelaide, Geoffrey Smith, had achieved a clear majority over the Bishop of Tasmania, Richard Condie, in the Houses of Bishops and Laity; but did not receive a majority in the House of Clergy.

The House of Bishops voted 15-8 in favour of Archbishop Geoffrey; and the House of Laity voted 9-3 for him. The House of Clergy voted 7-5 in favour of Bishop Richard. To be elected primate, a candidate needs a majority in all three houses.

"Our archbishop Justine Badi has requested all Christians to remain at home and to pray from their homes on Sundays with their families until we get information from the government that the situation has improved."

The position of bishop in the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes (most of whose parishes are in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan) became vacant when their bishop stepped down pending an investigation, which is nearing completion, and subsequently retired for health reasons. Bishop John Miller (a Trinity School for Ministry graduate) had been the temporary bishop for some months, but has had to step down also for health reasons.
