A Lambeth Palace spokesman confirmed that Archbishop Justin did have a brief meeting with Archbishop Eliud Wabukala and the Deputy President during a brief visit to the region last week, but the Kenyan Archbishop was not invited to join Welby in meeting with the Deputy President.

The visit of Welby begs a number of questions. Why did the ABC spend time and money going to Kenya, but didn't get to meet the President?

Why was the Archbishop of Kenya not involved in this meeting and why was there no joint statement? Did Canterbury go over his head? Did the Archbishop of Kenya not agree to the visit?

Why is there no mention of this visit on the Anglican Communion Office's website or the ABC's December diary, despite an article about terrorism in Kenya on the same day that Welby was in Kenya? http://www.anglicannews.org/news/2014/12/church-leaders-call-for-speedy-enactment-of-anti-terrorism-law.aspx

One wonders that in going to Kenya just after his comments about hunger in the UK being more shocking than hunger in Africa, if the Archbishop can't resist an opportunity to grandstand and yet does it with poor judgment.
