November 15 2013 By virtueonline Objects of Extreme Hate: Ex-Homosexuals

I know many of these folks personally. They were deeply into the homosexual lifestyle, but have now been set gloriously free from this unhealthy and high-risk lifestyle. There are probably only two other areas in which conversion out is considered to be so heinous.

But I ended up going to church that day. Even though I was almost 35 years old, I was still my parents' daughter, I was visiting their home, and I knew they had their hearts set on my going with them. Little did I know how significant visiting their church was going to be for me.

November 12 2013 By virtueonline Same-sex marriage has an unexpected foe

Dr Jagose declares that the enemy is marriage itself. Why should gays and lesbians want to sign up for such an antiquated, repressive institution? Throughout the 20th century gays, lesbians and feminists have been working to shatter marriage. Stay-at-home mums in the West know this and their insight costs them. It costs them materially but arguably more painfully it costs them in terms of their social standing.

November 05 2013 By virtueonline Jimmy Carter, "Progressive" Evangelicals, and the Religious Right

Balmer explained that the impetus behind his book really began while he was in college shortly after Carter arrived on the national scene. "Here was someone who claimed to be a born-again Christian and isn't ashamed to say so, which at that time was a rather new thing, at least for us evangelicals in the Midwest."

November 04 2013 By virtueonline African-American Religious Leaders Ramp Up Campaign Against Marriage Equality

"I think that they will feel the crunch. I think that they cannot take for granted that they can come to the church and get the church's sanction and votes and signatures and then go to Springfield and don't speak what the people want them to speak. If that's how we have to be heard, we will be heard."

Bishop Trotter and Bishop Lance Davis, of New Zion Covenant Church in Dolton, are planning the next moves in their campaign to defeat the measure, which appears closer to reality.

October 31 2013 By virtueonline Hate, homophobia and holiness

The young want to sleep with the attractive they meet.

The married look interestedly at people they are not married to.

Same or opposite sex attraction, we are just human.

So when I read Andrew Brown recently, being vituperative about Evangelicals at Gafcon practising 'homophobia' and threatening a split in the Anglican Communion no one cares about, I had several reactions.
