Just yesterday, the NCC was back in action to affect government policy by hosting a webinar to uphold a "faithful budget." This electronic meeting combined 30 heads of religious denominations and religious organizations. One of the organization's officials, Douglas Grace, opened with the webinar's intention-"that the US Super Committee not balance the budget at the expense of society's poor."

While men (23%) are almost twice as likely than women (12%) to oppose both types of union

Over 11,000 men who have sex with men were interviewed. This is an enormous sample. Kinsey's sample, large for its time, and with a much over-represented number of gay/lesbian people, only had about 1300 homosexual men. The paper interprets data from a CDC (Centers for Disease Control) project, and the research standard seems to be high.

"Further a chaplain is not required to participate in or officiate a private ceremony if doing so would be in variance with the tenets of his or her religion."

The move represents a huge shift in military policy towards gay marriage. The Department of Defense had previously said that same sex marriages could take place once 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' was repealed but later reversed that decision and promised to study it further, according to Stars and Stripes.

When the episcopal church made it's decision(s) around all things GLBT, the process was political. We met in conventions and passed legislation. As such, the decisions were made in the realm of power and politics. Arguments were obviously provided, sometimes with great passion, but I am not sure how much actual discussion took place. Dialogue frequently means, "let's talk and then do what I want." That was certainly what I saw in this process.

But the bishops have simply dressed up Al Gore's environmental message with numerous Biblical quotes and references to Christ. The message they sent was not profoundly Christian nor was it inspirational. The danger is, of course, that environmentalism, which is one of the leading secular religions, is replacing Christianity. The greater danger is these bishops have no clue that that is what is going on.
