Culture Wars
August 01 2015 By dvirtue The Phenomenon of The Celebrity Preacher

The Church of God cultivates its own breed of celebrities and the immature attach themselves to personages of eminence in the hope that some of their glory will rub off and create the sheen of luster upon themselves. This constitutes the cult of religious groupies. It is bad for the folk elevated to their pedestals (it attracts temptation and instils pride) and it is bad for those who place them there (who need to adjust their gaze towards the Lord Jesus).

July 31 2015 By dvirtue WASHINGTON, DC: Liberal Clergy Praise Planned Parenthood "Doing God's Work"

The videos, of which a fourth installment was released this morning, reveal Planned Parenthood officials discussing compensation for the potential sale of tissues from aborted pregnancies. Widely shared over social media, the videos sparked uproar among abortion opponents and some medical ethicists because the sale of fetal tissue for profit is illegal under U.S. law. CMP simultaneously released unedited footage of conversations with the officials.

But the "buyer" was actually an undercover investigator posing as an official with a biotech company that acts as a middleman to sell aborted baby body parts to universities and other researchers. Actually, the "buyer" is an employee of the Center for Medical Progress, who used a hidden camera to secretly tape the conversation to reveal a new side of Planned Parenthood's abortion mills that killed 327,653 babies in 2013 -- the sale of baby livers, kidneys, brains and other organs.

July 25 2015 By dvirtue Os Guinness: Welcome to the 'Grand Age of Apologetics'

Clearly we're at a stage in Western history where we need the church to be persuasive. Public life has grown more secular. Brian Brown, President of the National Organization for Marriage, urged the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa to affirm that marriage can only be the union of a man and woman, and to reject the Court's "illegitimate decision." He also said, "We need a champion for marriage as President of the United States" who can appoint justices who can overturn the decision. "There will be another case before the Supreme Court."

Moore's recent article on the video is largely reflective of Southern Baptists Convention's (SBC's) sentiment on the issue: "This is not only murderous; it is murderous in the most ghoulish way imaginable." Since 2008, the SBC has called for "the evaluation of candidates for elected office based on their affiliation with Planned Parenthood" and for "both houses of the United States Congress to defund Planned Parenthood."

July 21 2015 By dvirtue New video: Planned Parenthood official haggles over baby body part prices, jokes 'I want a Lamborghini'

When Gatter initially asked for $75 per part, the undercover investigators countered with $100 -- which Gatter readily accepted. These negotiations came after Gatter said she didn't want to make an opening offer because "in negotiations, the person who throws out the first figure is at a loss, right?"

"I don't want to lowball," she said moments later. Towards the end of the video, Gatter jokes that she "wants a Lamborghini."

July 12 2015 By dvirtue The Supreme Court Ratifies a New Civic Religion That Is Incompatible with Christianity

Consider the already much-quoted closing: "As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions.
