At a press conference in the Salt Palace yesterday, the Bishop of Eastern Michigan, Todd Ousley said the Anglican Communion "has the capacity to repair itself" when questioned by this reporter about the 'torn fabric of the communion."
The Anglican Communion is a healthy alive organism that has the capacity to heal itself, said the bishop. Pressed by this reporter he said, "We have had no discussion about the tears in the Anglican Communion. We had discussions with other members of the Communion about ways we are moving forward. We did not discuss this [broken communion] and we welcomed delegates and friends from other parts of the Communion," he added.
"I am looking forward to this convention as it unfolds and the relationships between the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies as it moves forward into the future, leading us into new understandings and beautiful ways of governing ourselves that is messy."
The Bishop's remarks indicate a complete lack of historical understanding about what has been going on over the past 12 years in the broken ties that now exist between Western pan Anglicanism and the Global South. The fact that two African archbishops are present, one from Central Africa and the other from West Africa reinforces to their minds that African Anglicanism itself is divided.
