Secretary General of the Anglican Communion Idowu-Fearon Prays for Primates. Should he?

The Most Rev. Josiah Idowu-Fearon, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, has distributed the following prayer regarding the meeting of primates scheduled in January.

FEARON: Gracious and loving Father,

VOL: No argument there.

FEARON: We thank you for the hope and faith of the Archbishop of Canterbury in inviting his colleagues to the meeting of this instrument.

VOL: Faith and hope might bring them. There is still no certainty at this time that they will all come. But here's hoping. Welby will need a miracle along the lines of raising Jairus' daughter from the dead if he accomplishes anything.

FEARON: We confess our individual and corporate roles in bringing the Communion to where she is today and ask for your forgiveness.

VOL: Which individual and what corporate roles exactly? If you have former TEC Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold in mind (and Later Jefferts Schori), who played the primates at every primatial meeting and beat up Lord Carey and Rowan Williams in an effort to get the Global South on board over sodomy, then he certainly should as an individual, confess, and repent, but he won't as he won't be there. Furthermore, he says he does not need to confess anything because he believes in "generous orthodoxy" which only he believed in, but could not sway the vast majority of Anglican leaders to go along with. So what does former archbishop Peter Akinola need to confess and repent of or the present Nigerian Archbishop Nicholas Okoh need to confess...the sin of being orthodox? I don't think so.

FEARON: As the individual primate prays and thinks over this invitation, we pray for them that your Spirit will speak to each of them and that each primate will respond as guided by the Holy Spirit. May they receive wise counsel from the bishops in their provinces, and may the bishops themselves receive wise counsels from the lay and ordained members of their respective dioceses.

VOL: The (Holy) Spirit has already declared through God's word written what he believes about pansexuality so unless Fred Hiltz, Archbishop of Canada, has an epiphany and falls flat on his face and repents for pushing this and gay marriage then the Holy Spirit won't be guiding him at all. The only "wise counsel" from TEC's 98% liberal and revisionist bishops that Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will hear is, "Don't even think about changing course, because you can't. General Convention has spoken, passed multiple resolutions and if you dare cut Archbishop Foley Beach any slack short of shaking his hand your job and you are history."
Re laity. Who are you kidding? Who listens to the laity? They are docile; they listen to their leaders and do exactly what they are told. Most of them lost any sense of what the Bible says or what Anglicanism stood for years ago. With two thirds of all laity in TEC being women over 60, you can be sure they are not giving advice unless it is about the flower arrangement or the altar guild. Most of the laity with any cojones (and who believed anything) left TEC for the ACNA years ago and they are not coming back.

FEARON: We pray that primates will hear the voice of the Holy Spirit clearly and submit to him as they respond to this letter. We pray that there will be a response with a high expectancy level from each primate and that there will be an outcome that will bring glory and honor to our Lord, a restoration of godly unity to the Communion and a new energy for the restoration of a renewed commitment to faithful witness in a continuingly secular world that is in contest with Kingdom values. We pray all this through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

VOL: Liberals and revisionist primates have never heard the voice of the Holy Spirit because most of them don't think the Bible is a trustworthy document on morals, so why should the Holy Spirit talk to them further if they are already disobedient? The Holy Spirit will not persist when he is not listened to in the first place. What is He going to say that is different from what is already revealed in Scripture...which they have already rejected! The fabric of the Communion was torn decades ago and has not been restored. If anything the tear has only gotten worse. What "faithful witness" has TEC shown the world apart from capitulating to it in so many areas. TEC ceased to be a counter culture even before Gene Robinson was made bishop.

The only "response" and "high expectancy" from the Global South Primates will be their call for TEC and ACoC to repent of their sins for disobeying God's clearly revealed word about how we should behave. So far, they have shown no interest in doing that because they would prefer to talk about climate change, which is a non-starter for the Global South Primates. No one needs to expand their carbon footprint by flying halfway around the world to talk about climate change at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The only winners are airline carriers and their bottom line.

What "faithful witness in a continuingly secular world..." are we talking about? Western pan Anglicanism has been unfaithful by promoting unbiblical views about sexuality for over three decades. The culture triumphed over Scripture eons ago. In short they have become "kissing Judases" denying doctrines and allowing bishops to hold their sees when they have openly denied the faith. As evidence, their dioceses are shrinking and dying and will be out of business in 20 years because they have no gospel to proclaim whereas the GS bishops, archbishops, and their provinces -- already vibrant -- will continue to draw in millions as they proclaim the unique unchanging Gospel of Jesus Christ. Amen
