A woman Islamist intoned, "What are best Islamic traits, feed the people and illuminate our hearts with light and let there be light above and below us; Oh God make us your light. We should be passionate about social justice."

On December 15, the bishops of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe (also called the Episcopal Church in Europe), the Church of England's Diocese of Gibraltar in Europe (also called the Diocese in Europe), the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church and the Lusitanian Catholic Apostolic Evangelical Church authorized and released the Porto Covenant.

At this time of writing, events have still not fully played out. While many believe the end is in sight, many believe that it is far from over. There are whispers of civil war. The country could shut down, while the faith of many did.

The book is divided into three parts. The first is The National Covenant in Scripture and History. The second is Race, Covenant, and Contemporary American Society. The third is Theology and Practices of the Covenant Community.

Eight of the authors are black and two are Jewish scholars. Most authors reject the dominant, mainstream narrative on systemic racism and the politics of grievance. Instead, they build a Christian case for positive action and reconciliation.
