This election, consent and consecration would have been one more act in the long line of apostolic succession in the Episcopal Church had if not been for the fact that the Rt Revd Gene Robinson is a declared homosexual that cohabits with another man in a relationship that is no secret, rather openly known and tolerated in the Diocese of New Hampshire and the rest of the Episcopal Church in the United States.

The Rev. Reed Freeman, rector at Trinity Episcopal Church in
Hattiesburg, said his church probably lost some members over the
controversy, but said those who left may be people who weren't involved
in the church.
Clarifying his own place in the disagreement after months of silence,
the newly installed bishop said he would not ordain active homosexuals
or allow their unions to be celebrated, but promised to oppose any
limits on the diocese's participation in the national Episcopal Church.
"As a result the business of the convention remains unfinished, and at some point Bishop Herlong will have to call us to reconvene."
The motion to adjourn was based on the questionable legality of eight 'proxy' votes of clergy who were not in attendance at the meeting at Christ Church Cathedral at Ninth Avenue North and Broadway.
