Released a little after 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Maryland Correctional Institute for Women in Jessup, she will be on supervised parole and probation for five years.

Gerard Shields, a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, said Cook is required to report within 24 hours to a Parole and Probation field office and will learn the conditions of her probation at that meeting.

But, after an hour-long debate in the Governing Body (GB), members voted overwhelmingly to reject the motion, proposed by the Archdeacon of Llandaff, the Ven. Peggy Jackson.

Sixty-three people voted against her proposal, 20 abstained and 19 voted for it. Two of the Church's six bishops, however -- the Bishops of Bangor, the Rt Revd Andy John, and St Davids, the Rt Revd Joanna Penberthy -- indicated their support for the motion.

If that's the case, Cook, 62, will have served just over 3 1/2 years of the seven-year sentence she was given on four criminal charges in connection with the crash that killed bicyclist Thomas Palermo, a software engineer and married father of two, on Dec. 27, 2014.

Cook pleaded guilty to the charges -- including automobile manslaughter, drunken driving, texting while driving and leaving the scene of a collision -- in 2015.
