In an AD CLERUM (to clergy only) Freier reiterated that, irrespective of changes in the marriage law, there is no change in the Anglican Church's position on officiating in or performing a same sex marriage. They cannot.

Recently, three retired Anglican clergy with Permission to Officiate in the Diocese of Melbourne took part in an event where a same-sex marriage was celebrated in Melbourne. Here is what Freier wrote:

The process of honest discussion and collaboration over the past year has been both challenging and rewarding. Members of our Standing Committee have enjoyed a close working relationship with Truro leaders over these many months and I am hopeful that these relationships will continue to bear much fruit. I give thanks to the Lord for the leadership of Truro Church and our Standing Committee and for their gracious and prayerful persistence in finding a solution to this challenge.

The basic reason why there is a division amongst the Anglicans of Brazil is because the Episcopal Church of Brazil has departed from the teaching of Scripture, and hence from Anglican teaching, concerning sex and marriage. The division is not over a matter of church politics or personal ambition. It is a matter of the fundamentals of the faith, of what makes a true church, of the authority of God's word.

Credit where it is due. 'Christianity-lite' can be very appealing. It reaches out to where people are hurting and it encourages them. It reaches out to where they are longing for good change, and it promises them that change can come.

It speaks continuously of love and hope. Everyone likes to hear of love and hope.

But it has three serious flaws. It doesn't define love, and it never delivers on the hope. It isn't what Jesus preached.
