In vote by orders, the convention's House of Deputies adopted an amended version of Resolution A068, Plan for the Revision of the Book of Common Prayer, 63 for, 30 against and 17 divided in the clergy order and 69 for, 26 against and 15 divided amongst the lay order. Most of the 110 diocesan delegations have eight deputies, half of which are clergy and half are laity.

"There is a desperate need for independent institutions and independent initiatives to work interdependently and accountably," said Lisa Kimball, associate dean of lifelong learning at Virginia Theological Seminary. "In my opinion, however, a mandated resolution that begins with the word investigationand establishes an external body is far more likely to foster skepticism, resentment, suspicion, and ultimately resistance."

"We know these stories," said Bishop Dede Duncan-Probe (XI Central New York). "But we have never heard these stories in a liturgy."

The Central New York bishop is the chair of the House of Bishops' Pastoral Response to #MeToo Planning Team. She planned and orchestrated the service.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry led the assemblage in a litany recognizing corporate wrong doing.

For the most part, the three Episcopal Church officers were very complimentary to the press.

"Thank you for being here and for what you do," the Presiding Bishop said starting off the press conference after "losing" the coin toss. "Part of the work of communicators is not just general communication but communicating good news and most importantly the Good News of Jesus Christ."
