During the same time frame, all 9 Provinces of the Episcopal Church reported a drop in Sunday attendance. Province 9, which is comprised of dioceses from South America, was especially hit, reporting a 22.6% decrease in attendance, with the Diocese of the Honduras shrinking by an alarming 43%. Congregations are also becoming smaller and older; 69% of churches reporting had an ASA of 100 or less, which is down 5% from 2009, and across the board, the average age of congregants is 61.

Canon Pemberton, 58, formerly a hospital chaplain, was the first member of the clergy to enter into a same-sex marriage, when he wed his partner Laurence Cunnington last April. Pemberton's marriage defied a decision by the House of Bishops, which has banned gay clergy from marrying, and he later had his permission to officiate revoked. This meant he was also unable to take up another job at the NHS, as he was declined the correct licences.

On June 13, 2015, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde ordained four people in the Washington National Cathedral. In the tense service, Budde issued a series of warnings to both the ordinands and the congregation of about 150 people who sat in the empty looking Cathedral. She stated that the future deacon and three priests had no promise of lifetime employment and that these four had seen the worst that church life offers. In fact, she said, they had been knocked-around by the church.

"I must therefore make it entirely clear that the Bishop of Bondo represents only himself and his action contradicts the position of the Anglican Church of Kenya."

The Archbishop said he was saddened that a member of his own House of Bishops is treating those who have promoted false teaching against the mind of the wider Communion as bishops in good standing.
