Leading up to the 2018 General Convention, Love was one of eight conservative Episcopal bishops who still refused to allow the church's approved trial marriage rites for same-sex couples. When General Convention passed Resolution B012 to allow same-sex couples to marry in all domestic dioceses, most of the conservative bishops agreed to abide by the resolution's requirements.

Lisby is married to the Rev. Timothy Burger, rector of the Episcopal church, according to court documents. Lisby is a former rector of All Saints Church in Worcester. From 2005 to 2010, he served in the Rhode Island Diocese as a curate, which is an assistant priest, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Providence; and as rector, or head priest, at Church of the Ascension in Cranston, according to a spokesman for the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts.

TFCA is one of the larger congregations within ACNA, reporting 2,194 members in 2018, with an average principle service attendance of 1,274 and operating income of $6.3 million. The church's daughter congregations reported a combined membership of 1,481 and an average attendance of 1,548 the same year.

The notice issued on behalf of the Most Reverend John Augustine, Bishop of Lucknow and Metropolitan of the Church of India (CIPBC) on Sunday, charges Welby with making a "factually incorrect declaration" at the Primates' meeting in 2018 by declaring the Church of South India (CSI) and Church of North India (CNI) to be the "only legitimate successors of the Church of England in India."
