"For the past 60 years, we have matured as a Church in the area of being self-governing. I am the ninth Archbishop of the Church and the eighth Ugandan to hold this office. That, in itself, is a testimony to our milestone of 60 years."

He said the Church was at first known as the Native Anglican Church, but 60 years ago the name was changed to the Church of Uganda and became a self-governing entity.

The purpose of ANIE said Bishop Lines was to give such churches a home and a hope as they took on the task of reaching out across Europe with the biblical gospel. A welcome was given to the new network by Anglican Primates of Brazil, Myanmar and Nigeria, Archbishops from Sydney and Nigeria, and Bishops from Chile and Tasmania.

The bishop made the appeal at a ground breaking ceremony of a cooking oil factory being constructed by a Ugandan investor.

The factory under construction belongs to Anglican tycoon, Gusta Ntake.

In his speech as chief guest, he said that the Ugandan government is very good at welcoming foreign investors and offering them very good conditions in which to operate, but that local investors are left to fend for themselves. They should be given priority, he said.

The Free Church of England (FCE) is a 19th century break away from the Church of England.

The FCE told Premier that the minister, Rev Jonatas Bragatto, was hired using money from selling the church building but that he did not revive the congregation (of less than 10 people) in two years enough to supply new funding for his ministry - and that funds were depleting.

After consultations with Bishop Todd Hunter and others, a draft petition (over Bishop Reed's signature) has been developed which has yet to be approved by the College of Bishops. However, some planning steps and bridge-building are under way.

Bishop Julian has joyfully accepted their request and asked you to welcome the Sisters in our mist.
