Bishop Fred Henry, in his recent pastoral letter on homosexuality, openly recognized that the purpose of the “gay marriage” push is the destruction of the traditional family and of any religious opposition. Bishop Henry wrote, “The goal (of changing the definition of marriage) is to acquire a powerful psychological weapon to change society’s rejection of homosexual activity and lifestyle into gradual, even if reluctant, acceptance.”

There was a continued international flavor to the march, as pro-life supporters from around the world, including again a visible and vocal delegation from France, attentively listened to speeches from secular and religious leaders, demanding an end to abortion, assisted suicide, and abortion-based research. As well, the sanctity of marriage was a more prominent topic, particularly among speakers at the Supreme Court.

In considering the Report, the House was very conscious of the critical and urgent issues addressed by the Windsor Report for the cohesion of the Anglican Communion, and the need to support the Archbishop of Canterbury in his dual role both in terms of the leadership of the Anglican Communion and as the representative of the Church of England at the forthcoming Primates’ Meeting.

The issue of assisted euthanasia was reignited last week when Brian Blackburn, a retired policeman who killed his terminally ill wife in a suicide pact, received a nine-month suspended sentence at the Old Bailey. The court was told that Blackburn's wife, Margaret, 62, had just weeks to live and had asked her husband to cut her wrists.
