The Curley firm has begun a review of the concerns that have been raised, and is expected to brief the Presiding Bishop about its plan for the investigation early in the new year.

Churchgoers and others staged a protest wearing rainbow armbands last month to show support for LGBT members, according to Dallas Episcopalians for Unity. The Diocese has reportedly refused to set up a meeting to settle the standoff.

The national Episcopal Church voted in July to allow same-sex marriages, but individual clergy members are allowed to refuse to perform these weddings or ban them outright in their dioceses.

A gruesome video accompanied the message, showing graphic footage of victims being shot in the head, beheaded and even burned alive.

A church member said ASIO had been contacted over the hacking. However, an ASIO spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter.

Parish priest Rahal Dergham said the distressing hack angered the church community, the majority of whom are Syrian and Iraqi refugees.

As IRD reported in October, the church's domestic U.S. membership dropped -2.7 percent from a reported 1,866,758 members in 2013 to 1,817,004 in 2014, a loss of 49,794 persons. Attendance took an even steeper hit, with the average number of Sunday worshipers dropping from 623,691 in 2013 to 600,411 in 2014, a decline of 23,280 persons in the pews, down -3.7 percent.

St. James Anglican held the first service in its new home at 2995 Airway Ave. in Costa Mesa in October. The church still serves the Newport community, but the new location off Redhill makes it easily accessible to a wider community.
