The names of the signatories have not been disclosed in order to protect them from retaliation until the Disciplinary Board for Bishops can act on the charges. Under the Canons, the charges are reviewed first by Bishop F. Clayton Matthews, the Intake Officer for the Disciplinary Board.

When at the height of the Kaduna religious riots of 2000, Idowu-Fearon, against all odds, established a centre for the study of Islam in his Kaduna Diocese, a cross section of his flock virtually demanded for his head, calling him all manner of names including that of a Muslim Bishop, infiltrating the Church of Christ.

That name tag has tended to accompany the Bishop over these years for a man who actually speaks Arabic apart from holding a Master's Degree in Islamic Theology.

This latter provision caused concern for several bishops. Bishop William Love of Albany said he worried that the church might try to instruct dioceses who or how they should elect as bishop.

Bishop Dan Martins of Springfield said that he was apprehensive that "the church at a church wide level will get to meddling in the life of dioceses." He said otherwise he could support the resolution.

I rejoice that the Supreme Court has opened the way for the love of two people to be recognized by all the states of this Union, and that the Court has recognized that it is this enduring, humble love that extends beyond the grave that is to be treasured by society wherever it exists. Our society will be enriched by the public recognition of such enduring faithful love in families headed by two men or two women as well as by a woman and a man.

The article somehow failed to mention that the only course he actually taught last semester was titled "Christianity & Sexual Diversity."

One wonders how Fordham expects its Catholic theology to be "taught in a manner faithful to Scripture, Tradition, and the Church's Magisterium," as required by Catholic discipline, when the head of the department stands in open opposition to the Church's teaching on marriage.

Five of the Episcopal Church's seven Central American dioceses in Province IX, Honduras, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Littoral Ecuador and Venezuela, voted against the Convention's two gay marriage resolutions. The same five dioceses also signed on to a minority report, released at the Convention, protesting the denomination's same-sex advocacy.

"There is a desire not to do unintentional harm to the people we are trying to help," said Bishop Dean Wolfe of Kansas. "Divestment harms the most vulnerable people."

Significant numbers of bishops representing a wide swath of both global Anglicanism and ecumenical partner churches have been in attendance at past conventions.

On Friday morning at the convention's worship service, 19th-century ecumenist and translator Isabel Florence Hapgood was commemorated. Hapgood, regarded as a key figure in the dialogue between Western Christianity and Orthodoxy, was fluent in both Russian and Church Slavonic.
